Please join the community of karst scientists within the Association of American Geographers. Typically, our group meets at each AAG Annual Meeting. In 2006, we held a paper session and panel on caves and karst science. The meeting was held in Chicago from March 7-11, 2006. We will announce plans for the 2007 meeting around October 2006.

Dr. George N. Huppert (1945-2001), Professor of Geography at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, was a pioneer in cave and karst conservation. He wrote numerous articles on cave protection, and volunteered thousands of hours for national and international speleological organizations. George served as one of the first Directors of the American Cave Conservation Association (ACCA), and acted on its Board for 19 years. George worked as Business Manager for the National Speleological Society (NSS) Journal of Cave and Karst Studies, was highly-active in the NSS Conservation Section, and was a Fellow of the Society. To those he met, George was known for his energy, enthusiasm, and love of learning. As a geographer and earth scientist, George Huppert's legacy is not simply a better understanding of unique cave ecosystems and the behavior of karst groundwater; he also leaves a framework for their sustained protection and management.
